What does NaNoWriMo do?

I’ve seen a lot about NaNoWriMo and I haven’t figured out exactly what it does. I saw something about a word count giveaway but declined to sign up for an account as I didn’t know what it did.

It doesn’t do anything. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. it’s a community contest where authors/writer tackle writing a book in a month (50K). It’s an accountability activity, help people get excited about writing a book and maybe finishing it.

You can get some coupons for participating (like with Dabble) and if you get to your 50K (in Nov, your goal in april/july camp) there are better coupons (50% off dabble – I think)

And camp is a good way to set a goal meet a goal and build a writing habit. It’s a great program.

The official Nano happens in November.

In April and July there is a Camp nano. You can set your own goal in camp… edit your book, write 50 pages, write 30K etc… in November it’s exclusively 50K words.
